Guidelines
The collection code is used to identify and reference the herbarium as collection and is often registered with Index Herbariorum. Ideally its coden is unique in the world.
Publish the Index Herbariorum coden of the herbarium in collectionCode. If the herbarium does not have an Index Herbariorum coden, use the full herbarium name or unregistered acronym instead.
If the herbarium is registered with the Biodiversity Collections Index or another official registry, publish the collection identifier issued by one (!) of those registries in collectionID. It is preferred to use the unresolved identifier: urn:lsid:biocol.org:col:14437, not http://biocol.org/urn:lsid:biocol.org:col:34164.
[Suggested text by KCP: Use the registered Index Herbariorum (IH) code for the institution. If your institution does not have a registered code, it is required that you obtain one at the IH weblink below. Note that in some of the larger historical collections, there are legal reasons why integrated collections must be kept separate. Keep this in mind, when retrieving the institution code. For example, the Harvard University Herbaria contains six [KCP: or seven?] legal entities, all of which have their own acronyms, see examples # 3-8 [KCP or 3-9] below.]
